Michael Gaffney has returned to Callison as a director in the global retail studio. Gaffney will be based in Seattle and oversee program management for U.S. and international clients. He is an architect with over 20 years of experience in account and project management and architectural 3D imaging. Previously, he was director of retail at SkB Architects in Seattle. He also worked as a project manager and project architect at MulvannyG2 Architecture in Bellevue, and spent 14 years at Callison as an architectural 3D imaging manager, designer and project architect for mixed-use developments.

The firm also promoted Kevin Galvez to designer 1 in the Honolulu office. English has over 15 years of experience in aviation project management, airport management and aviation planning, and has worked at Paine Field in Everett. Matsumoto is in the structural engineering group and is working on seismic evaluations for Navy facilities. He has over 14 years of design experience, including with the Corps of Engineers and Coughlin Porter Lundeen. Langer holds a bachelor's in civil engineering from the University of Portland. She works in the civil projects group, and is providing design support on Washington State Patrol North Bend Fire Training Academy's tower. Schoonover has 15 years of survey experience, primarily in Skagit and Whatcom counties. He is working on projects for Boeing in Everett. Barclay has 28 years of engineering experience, 25 at Reid Middleton. He is managing projects at Southwest Washington Regional Airport in Kelso and Olympia Regional Airport. Kendall has 21 years of engineering experience, 15 with Reid Middleton. She was project manager for the Paine Field runway. Haagsma designs and assists on projects for the airport and civil projects group, including Olympia Taxiway C & W Rehabilitation. Galvez has worked in the Hawaii office as an intern. Reid Middleton is an Everett-based engineering, planning and surveying firm.

Schildmeyer has seven years of industry experience and is working on the Emerald Queen Casino garage. Olson holds bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from Washington State University. He is working on the UW Police Station. Williams holds bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from WSU, and is working on Olympic Hills Elementary.

FSi consulting engineers hired mechanical engineer Kathi Shoemake. Shoemake has eight years of engineering experience, including managing the LEED process, and tenant improvements. Seattle-based FSi provides mechanical engineering.

In its Seattle office, ZGF Architects promoted Barbara Anderson, Jim Harman and John Mess to principal. Anderson specializes in health care planning and design. She has over 25 years of experience in health care projects and holds a master of nursing degree from the University of Washington. Among the projects she has contributed to are St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor and The Everett Clinic at Smokey Point in Marysville. Harman has over 37 years of experience in planning, programming and design of large-scale health care projects — 15 years at ZGF. He is working on the 650,000-square-foot Teck Acute Care Centre at BC Children's Hospital and BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre in Vancouver, B.C. Mess has more than 36 years of experience leading planning and design projects with a focus on health care facilities. He was responsible for one of the firm's first Integrated Project Delivery health care projects that involved a tri-party contractual agreement: the Integrated Procedures Center within Virginia Mason Medical Center's Jones Pavilion in Seattle. He has also led ZGF's work for the Franciscan Health System.

Wickwire has done technical support for over five years, most recently at Coldwater Creek. The Walnut Creek, Calif.,-based firm provides multimodal transportation planning, travel demand forecasting, bicycle/pedestrian planning, smart growth, impact assessment, transit, and engineering services.

Sazan Environmental Services hired Marvin Hullinger as a commissioning agent and commissioning project manager. Hullinger has over 12 years of experience in commissioning and building energy analyses. He has worked on health care, lab, mixed-use, and commercial office building projects. The Seattle-based firm provides commissioning services, Test-Adjust-Balance services, and HVAC troubleshooting and diagnostic services for buildings.

Bergseng has been a civil and environmental engineer for six years, and will support the permitting and compliance group. Gertz holds a bachelor's in civil engineering from Oregon State University. Carlstrom received a bachelor's in civil engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2013, and worked for a structural engineering firm in Shoreline. Dosch has a background in environmental hydrology and biogeochemistry and worked for the U.S. Geological Survey. He works in Landau's environmental remediation group. Levine has 16 years of geotechnical engineering experience. His projects include the Army Reserve Center geotechnical investigation at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Kostka has six months of experience in environmental remediation and sampling and two years interning for the U.S Geological Survey. Edmonds-based Landau provides geotechnical and environmental engineering, remediation, permitting, and compliance services.
