Forbes: Cal Anderson Park one of America’s best

Cal Anderson Park
Capitol Hill’s Cal Anderson Park is among the nation’s “Top 12″ urban parks, according to Forbes online. Other parks making the list were Central Park in New York, Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and Chicago’s Grant Park.

Cal Anderson got the nod because of its lemonade-from-lemons appeal, rising from a former reservoir. It’s one of six such parks in Seattle. The Berger Partnership was landscape architect.

This doesn’t surprise me at all. Over the last year I have spend a lot of time in Cal Anderson. Not only is the park beautiful but it thrives with life night and day.

As a young kid I walked to this park every day with my private school for lunch. Back then it was a pretty lifeless park besides the undesirable people that hung out by the kiddy pool. It wasn’t a “destination” in any way, despite being the only large openspace on the hill.

Since the redesign though it is hard not to find people in the park. From lovers to kids to spontaneous dodgeball players to the undesirable that still are there but don’t bother anyone, it is one of the most amazing places in Seattle. Its good to see people are taking notice.
