Seattle Public Schools

Seattle Public Schools has established the Office of Internal Audit and Ethics, which will report to Seattle School Board. It will be managed by SPS Internal Auditor Andrew Medina, who will now also serve as ethics officer. The office will receive and investigate complaints of ethics policy violations and oversee the whistleblower hotline and website. Medina also worked for the Port of Seattle and has 21 years of experience as an internal auditor and auditor.

City University of Seattle

City University of Seattle is launching its third school: the School of Applied Leadership. It will integrate practice, theory and critical analysis, and go through the doctoral level.

Clark Nuber

Clark Nuber, a CPA and consulting firm based in Bellevue, was named a top public accounting firm for women by the Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance and AWSCPA. Firms were chosen for advancing women using the MOVE program: money, opportunity, vital support for work-life and entrepreneurship. The firm said 31 percent of its partners and principals are women.

Nyhus Communications

Nyhus Communications, a Seattle communications and advocacy firm, hired Beth Hester as director of public affairs and statewide operations. She worked for the city of Seattle as director of public affairs and management for Mayor Mike McGinn. She was also general manager of Seattle Channel and worked for Mayor Greg Nickels, King County Council and former King County Executive Ron Sims.

DNA

DNA, a full-service Seattle agency with expertise in brand strategy, advertising, digital strategy and media, hired Kammie McArthur as creative director. McArthur was with Swirl San Francisco, where she was creative director and worked on projects for eBay, Clorox and YMCA. She also worked at Publicis in Seattle on T-Mobile.

King County

King County Executive Dow Constantine nominated William Hayes as director of the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention. He has been interim director since February. If confirmed by King County Council, Hayes would oversee jails, community corrections and juvenile detention.

Garvey Schubert Barer

The Seattle law firm Garvey Schubert Barer has added attorneys in New York, Portland and Seattle. In Seattle, Bill Humphries, Courtney Lee Tawresey and Miriam R. Woods are new. Humphries focuses on real estate, business and franchising, and also practiced as a Certified Public Accountant. Tawresey focuses on business, transaction, and federal and international tax law, and was with Grant Thornton in Denver. Woods worked as a state and local tax associate at KPMG. Patrick Conti has joined in Portland as a litigation associate. He was at Arnold & Porter in California. The Portland office also added Steven D. Nofziger, who was with Hershner Hunter in Eugene, and Jennifer F. Gould, who was an associate at Morrison & Foerster's San Francisco office.

State School Directors' Association

Alan Burke is executive director of the Washington State School Directors' Association. He is deputy superintendent at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.
