Recent fires rekindle debate: Masonry or wood construction?

    The Avalon at Edgewater, a wood-frame apartment complex, was engulfed by flames last month in New Jersey.

    Despite massive damage, recent large-scale building fires in Los Angeles and New Jersey resulted in no deaths to occupants or firefighters.
