Transportation Interpretive Center at Port of Kalama

Photos by Alex Jordan Photography [enlarge]

The Port of Kalama has opened the Kalama Transportation Interpretive Center at 110 W. Marine Drive.

The 13,500-square-foot space houses a museum with cultural artifacts and memorabilia, and new port offices. Construction cost $4.5 million.

The center was designed to resemble a traditional waterfront warehouse from the 1800s, reflecting on the area's past as a commercial and transportation hub.

Some of the items on display are a canoe carved from a cedar log, an Oregon Trail-style covered wagon, a 1929 Model AA Ford truck and a replica of the Tacoma, a late-19th-century railroad ferry.

Owner: Port of Kalama

Architect: Collins Architectural Group

General contractor: Berschauer Group
