The Sentinel is a six-story, 100-room hotel at 614 S.W. 11th Ave. in downtown Portland.
Provenance Hotels and Woodbine Development Corp. purchased the former Governor Hotel in 2012, and completed a $6 million renovation last year.
A new glass and steel awning opens into a space with ceilings decorated with the original ornate gilt plaster relief. The lobby has a custom-designed check-in desk inspired by a vintage librarian's table, as well as a turkish-inspired rug, and roughhewn wood tables that pay homage to the building's retail history as well as the Northwest's heritage as a timber capital.
There is a vintage Underwood manual typewriter in the lobby where guests can type out a few lines.
A display case features items from Tender Loving Empire, a store and record label that showcases the work of Portland designers and artists.
Floors two through four of the West Wing have 23,000 square feet of meeting space that once was occupied by the Elks.
During the renovation, the rooms received vintage-inspired carpeting, crystal light fixtures, and jewel-toned paint designed to complement the original plaster and gold leaf gilt ceilings.
