University Y Student Center at 1710 Market St. in downtown Tacoma is both a student center for the University of Washington Tacoma and a gym for the YMCA.
The $22 million, 70,238-square-foot center opened in January. UW Tacoma student fees financed much of the project.
It has assembly and office space, locker rooms, strength-training equipment, cardio and track components, a climbing wall and a gym with a basketball court.
Wood from the demolished Longshoremen's Hall was reused in a wall display about the history of that building.
The project won a 2015 national award from Design-Build Institute of America in the educational facilities category.
