Woodland High School

The new Woodland High School replaces a 1950s structure that will be reconfigured into a middle school.

The 154,000-square-foot school at 1500 Dike Access Road in Woodland cost about $43 million. It has a two-story main building, a greenhouse, grandstand, football field surrounded by a running track, sports fields and a discus/javelin area.

The new school serves 650 students, but has room for 900 and space to build another wing.

There are large windows and high ceilings with exposed beams and HVAC system. The district wanted to focus its budget on students, rather that high-end finishes so the exterior is concrete, rather than brick, and floors are polished concrete that is easy to maintain.

Classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including interactive white boards and microphones for teachers. Instead of a computer lab, students use portable notebook charging stations with integrated WiFi hot spots.

The main gym has twice as much seating as the old gym, and the new football field has artificial turf and a covered stadium with 1,600 seats.
