Angeline

Angeline is a new mixed-use building at 4801 Rainier Ave. S. in Columbia City.

The site is on the edge of the Columbia City Landmarks District, and was once a surface parking lot and a 1950s grocery store.

The Angeline connects the historic district and Columbia City Park. Two new streets, Park Drive South and South Angeline Street, are designed as woonerfs, where pedestrians have priority over cars.

A new 25,000-square-foot PCC grocery opens onto the park, with covered outside dining that links the store to the woonerf and park.

Street-side parking lots were replaced with street-front retail.

Above the 30,000 square feet of retail space are 193 apartments on five levels. There are 223 parking stalls on two below-grade levels.

The grocer will operate an urban farm on a second-floor terrace.

Residents will have access to a bike club, fitness room, theater, sixth-floor lounge and a roof-top terrace with P-patches.

For pets, there is a dog-wash and grooming facility.

The exterior on the southeast has a brick facade, reflecting the historic district. Looking north through the park, the exterior is designed to look clean and modern.

Construction is nearly complete, and leasing has started for some units. The PCC store opened in July.
