Smith & Burns

Smith & Burns — named for the people who owned the site in the late 1800s — is a new mixed-use project at 4455 Interlake Ave. N. in Wallingford.

The 150-unit building has open studios, and one- and two-bedroom units. There is 5,796 square feet of retail space, 157 parking spaces and 150 bike storage spots.

Site-salvaged brick and wood finishes are used in the complex. Reclaimed barn wood serves as paneling throughout the ground floor, and corridors are carpeted in scrap mill yarns.

The exterior was designed to respond to three unique streetscapes, ranging from commercial to residential areas. The west wall has a mural by Bumblebee of a child in a raincoat playing in a puddle with a rubber duck.

A library, fitness center, and hobby room with supplies and work tables are available to tenants. The building also has a central courtyard, private patios, and a rooftop deck with entertainment spaces and hops gardens.

The project is up for LEED silver certification, with sustainable features such as high-efficiency plumbing fixtures, and electric-vehicle charging stations.
