CWU Industrial & Engineering Technology Building

Central Washington University has renovated and expanded the Industrial & Engineering Technology Building at its campus in Ellensburg.

The project renovated 34,600 square feet and added 61,400 square feet, for a combined 96,000 square feet.

The new addition attaches to the existing building with a connecting “knuckle,” taking advantage of natural light and circulation patterns. Program spaces include laboratories, workshops, classrooms and office spaces. A high-bay workshop features a large roll-up door leading to a loading dock that works as an outdoor stage and social plaza.

A “working roof” provides space to test wind turbines and photovoltaic technologies. Sustainable design measures include solar pre-heating of air and water, radiant floor and chilled-beam heating and cooling systems, equipment heat recovery, external sunshades to control solar gain, and reclaimed materials.
