Chatham University Eden Hall Campus

Chatham University in Richland, Pennsylvania, has opened a new campus for the Falk School of Sustainability & Environment that was designed and built to demonstrate and test sustainable systems.

Mithun designed the Eden Hall Campus. The satellite campus occupies part of a 388-acre site that will ultimately house 1,200 students.

The campus incorporates water reuse systems, net positive energy production, and zero-waste operations in an environment for living and learning.

There is a dormitory, field lab, hoop house, cafe, dining commons with integrated classrooms, outdoor gathering spaces and supporting infrastructure.

Buildings, landscapes and infrastructure have been developed to be used for active research; including building technology, renewable energy systems, sustainable agriculture and food systems, aquaculture, water treatment and nutrient recovery, watershed protection, soils, wildlife and habitat.

Design integration is demonstrated and measured in the site and buildings, encouraging people to explore ways to build community and support healthy living.
