BELLEVUE -- Building officials from five Eastside cities -- Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Mercer Island and Redmond -- have received an award for a model program they started in 1998 that offers a unified approach to building processes and services.
The Jurisdictional Outreach Achievement Award was given to the group, called the Eastside Building Officials Partnership, by the Washington Association of Building Officials.
The Eastside Building Officials Partnership is creating easy-to-read information bulletins, adopting common ordinances that regulate construction, providing co-sponsored training seminars, and partnering with community businesses.
The group is also developing a pilot program that will open a first-of-its-kind multi-jurisdictional Internet portal, through which customers can make applications and obtain information on the joint cities program. The first phase of that effort is expected to be ready in late fall.
