PORTLAND (AP) — T. Burke Hayes, one of the founders of the international engineering firm CH2M Hill, has died at age 95.
Burke died at his home in Oregon on Friday, according to the company.
The engineering firm he helped build was founded in 1946 in Corvallis as CH2M, which represented the initials of the company's four founders. Later, the company merged with Clair A. Hill and Associates to become CH2M Hill.
Co-workers described Hayes as an inventive tinkerer who continued to lend support to the company throughout his life, often through mentoring employees.
“I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have learned so much from this remarkable man,” said CH2M Hill chief executive officer Ralph Peterson.
