Kundig does condos
Tom Kundig of Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects has designed his first condo project.
Kundig, known for his high-end houses, has designed a mixed-use building now under construction at 1111 E. Pike St. on Capitol Hill. He'll unveil the plans for real estate agents and the media on Thursday.
The six-story building, called Eleven Eleven East Pike, will have 27 units — mainly one-bedrooms — ranging from 600 to 1,125 square feet. Prices will go from the mid-$200,000s to the mid-$500,000s. A two-bedroom penthouse will sell for more than $800,000.
Amenities include a shared rooftop terrace and two levels of underground parking. One or two street-level commercial spaces are also planned.
Anne Michelson, a Capitol Hill resident, is the developer. Charter Construction is the general contractor. The project is scheduled to finish by the end of the year.
The units will have open-plan layouts, 9-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows. A “puzzle door” will slide along a ceiling track to enclose either the kitchen or the bedroom.
The exterior's three-color palate is taken from 1950s automobiles — a reference to the garages and auto showrooms that once populated the neighborhood.
