Wright Runstad to develop new Pierce County offices

  • NBBJ is the architect for the new 225,000-square-foot office building.
  • Wright Runstad & Co. will develop a new 225,000-square-foot office building for Pierce County.

Pierce County Deputy Executive Kevin Phelps last week said Wright Runstad and Lorig Associates were the finalists to build the project.

NBBJ is Wright Runstad's architect, Howard S. Wright Cos. is the general contractor, and Gunsul + Iverson is the interior architect.

Pierce County and Wright Runstad will spend the next few months sorting out design, finances and other details of the project, which Phelps said will cost around $80 million. Phelps said Pierce County wants to have those issues worked out by November and wants to start construction approximately one year from now. Pierce County employees would move in to the new building in the third quarter of 2016.

Pierce County will move 15 departments into the new building, including the County Council and County Executive, Auditor, Assessor and others. These divisions were scattered in nine different buildings.

“We were too fragmented in how we delivered our services,” Phelps said. “We want to have the public come to us and have one place where people can get most of their county services.”

The new building will be at 3580 Pacific Ave., former home of Puget Sound Behavioral Health.
