SEATTLE — A celebration about the life of Phil Thiel, an architect, University of Washington professor emeritus and urban activist, is set for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Center for Wooden Boats, 1010 Valley St. in Seattle.
Thiel died on May 10. He was 93.
His most recent project was the promotion of an urban square over the future U District rail station.
Thiel and his wife, Midori Kono, lived in the University District since the early 1960s. Thiel, a lifelong non-driver, walked in the neighborhood often.
Thiel is survived by Kono, daughters Tamiko in Munich and Kiko in London, and son Kenjii in Los Angeles.
