Ten projects won 2014 Design Awards from the American Institute of Architects Northwest & Pacific Region.
There were 120 submissions for the awards, which celebrate design by AIA members in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Hawaii, Guam and Micronesia. The work must have been built within the last five years.
Here is the jury that picked the award winners: Jess Corpus of MSA Architects in San Francisco, Michael B. Lehrer of Lehrer Architects in Los Angeles and Tania Salgado of Handprint Architecture in Denver.
AIA Northwest & Pacific Region also gave Jon Schleuning, a founder of Portland-based SRG Partnership, the Medal of Honor — its highest honor.
Schleuning has led civic, education, science/technology and health care projects in the Pacific Northwest and California. He was an early advocate for the urban revitalization of Portland, co-founded the Architecture Foundation of Oregon and was the first architect to lead the City Club of Portland. Schleuning also spearheaded SRG's research on high performance buildings.
Mahlum Architects received the Firm Award for excellence in design, practice and community engagement. Mahlum has offices in Seattle and Portland.
The Emerging Firm Award went to Architecture Building Culture, which has offices in Portland and West Vancouver, B.C.
