Seattle waterfront director resigns

SEATTLE — Jared Smith, director of Seattle's Office of the Waterfront, has resigned, according to a press release issued by the city Friday.

No reason was given for the resignation, but the release said Smith will spend time with his family and travel before “exploring options for the next chapter in his career.”

Starting Dec. 1, Smith will be replaced by Marshall Foster, who spent four years as a city planning director before joining the waterfront office. Foster has been working on the waterfront redevelopment since 2009.

Mayor Ed Murray applauded Smith's work on the waterfront and said he helped improve communication between the city and its partners.

Murray tapped Smith, a former vice president at Parsons Brinckerhoff, to lead the waterfront office when it was formed in February to manage the more than $1 billion project.
