DSA to manage 2 downtown parks

SEATTLE — The Downtown Seattle Association has signed an agreement with the city to help manage Westlake and Occidental parks.

The pilot agreement will last a year.

The two parks can feel uninviting to some people due to transients and illegal activities such as drug dealing.

The city and DSA want to attract more people to the parks. New tables and chairs will be placed throughout the parks, and food trucks will arrive for weekday lunches.

Live music, fitness classes, pingpong and foosball are also planned. There will be staff in the parks every day.

Many of the changes are already in place at Westlake Park. Occidental Park is scheduled to get its makeover later this summer.

Seattle Parks and Recreation will continue to provide maintenance support.
