Sorg, DLR Group to merge in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sorg Architects and DLR Group said they are joining operations.

The Sorg office in Washington, D.C., will merge into DLR as DLR Group|Sorg.

Suman Sorg will lead design for the D.C. office. Nikki Sorg will lead operations and Rachel Chung will manage the design studio.

Terms were not released, but DLR said the deal gives it a high profile presence on the East Coast and a broader global reach.

Sorg Architects was founded in 1986 by Suman Sorg. The 30-person D.C. office has completed projects in over 40 countries. It focuses on civic, K-12, government, multifamily, workplace and recreation projects. Sorg's India office is not part of the merger.

DLR was founded in Omaha in 1966. It now has 700 employees, and provides architecture, engineering, planning, interior design and building optimization services.

It has offices in the U.S., China and Dubai, including 103 employees in Seattle.
