A multi-use, all-weather athletic field is being built at the South End Recreation & Adventure Campus in South Tacoma.

This is the third and final phase of a $29 million project that is adding recreational options to the 78-acre campus, which is owned by Metro Parks Tacoma.

Bruce Dees & Associates designed the master plan for the overall project, and is overseeing construction.

Premier Field Development is the contractor for this phase, which will cost about $2.6 million.

The athletic field will have lighting and a synthetic turf.

Parking and a lawn for events such as movie nights or weddings are also being added in this phase. Work should be complete in December.

A community center, playground and sprayground were added in previous phases.

The campus previously had only baseball and softball fields. Work is being done as funding becomes available.
