Fentress Architects, which designed the Central Terminal at Sea-Tac Airport and Denver International Airport, has been selected to design the new passenger terminal at Paine Field in Everett.
Propeller Airports is developing the $15 million-$20 million project under a public-private partnership with Snohomish County. Yesterday, Propeller unveiled conceptual designs for the 29,000-square-foot terminal.
“What we are presenting today, along with our partners, is a privately funded, completely modern, and sustainable structure that reflects the history of aviation in Everett,” said Propeller CEO Brett Smith in a news release. “Ultimately we will make travel easier, add options for the traveling public, and take some cars off of I-5.”
The terminal will be next to the existing control tower. It will have two gates and a passenger lounge with windows and a freestanding fireplace.
Curt Fentress, president and CEO Fentress Architects, said it will use locally sourced and sustainable materials, including beetle-killed wood that would otherwise have been destroyed.
Propeller will submit an application for a SEPA permit shortly. If construction begins later this year the first commercial flights would start in late 2017.
A Propeller spokesman said no general contractor or construction manager has been selected, and the timing for that is unknown.
Propeller has offices in New York, Seattle and Atlanta. It partners with airport authorities and local communities to privately develop and operate passenger terminals, support facilities and other on-airport properties.

Fentress also designed the Olympia headquarters for the state Department of Natural Resources.
