A look at living small in 4 cities

AIA Seattle will hold a reception Thursday for a free exhibit about small living spaces in Copenhagen, New York, Stockholm and Tokyo. The event is from 5 to 8 p.m. at 1010 Western Ave.

Garrett Reynolds, winner of AIA Seattle's 2015 Emerging Professionals Travel Scholarship, organized the exhibit that explores what these cities can teach Seattle about housing.

It runs through June 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Reynolds is an architect at Bohlin Cywinski Jackson. WoZoCo Apartments in Amsterdam (shown here) was designed by MVRDV in 1997 to provide open space in a high-density complex.

The 100 small, one-bedroom units are designed for seniors. Each has a balcony, and Reynolds said balconies on the south side create a colorful rhythm that complements cantilevered dwellings on the north.
