Part of Senator Henry M. Jackson Park at 18th and State streets in Everett has reopened after a renovation.

Four acres in the westernmost part of the 15-acre park were revamped, and now have a climbing net, playground, restrooms, community gardens, basketball courts, walking and jogging paths, lawns, and a community garden. The garden has 35 plots people can rent for growing produce or flowers, including several raised beds for disabled gardeners.

There is also a plaza with information about Jackson, who was born in Everett and served in Congress for more than half a century.

The plaza has pervious concrete walkways and motion-sensor LED lighting.

Lori Cummings, Everett parks, recreation and community services director, said in a press release that the improvements provide the Delta and Riverside neighborhoods near the park with more outdoor space.

The city said the renovation cost $2.9 million. Funding came from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, Washington State Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Snohomish County Parks.

The project team was MIG|SvR, civil engineering and landscape architecture; HKP Architects, architecture; Coffman Engineers, mechanical and electrical engineering; Lund Opsahl, structural engineering; and Lehrman Cameron Studio, interpretive design.
