ENR honors Allen Institute, Google building

Vulcan Inc. developed the Allen Institute.

The Allen Institute in Seattle and Google Kirkland Campus, Building D and are among 2016's National Best of the Best Projects, according to Engineering News-Record.

The Seattle project won in the higher education/research category. The team included Vulcan Inc., owner/developer; GLY Construction, general contractor; and Perkins + Will, lead design firm. Subcontractors/consultants were BOLA Architecture + Planning, Candela, Sparling, Coughlin Porter Lundeen, McKinstry, Affiliated Engineers NW, Valley Electric, GeoEngineers and Pioneer Masonry.

The Kirkland development won in the green project category. The team included SRM Development, owner, developer and general contractor (core and shell); Foushee & Associates Co., general contractor (TI); and DLR Group, lead design firm.

Subcontractors were MacDonald Miller, University Mechanical, Evergreen Power Systems, Arch Ecology, KPFF Consulting Engineers and DCI Engineers.

The judges considered over 700 projects completed in the U.S. from May 2015 through June 2016. Winners are at http://tiny.cc/36t5jy/. They will be honored April 13 at the ENR Award of Excellence Gala in New York.
