SEATTLE — The city of Seattle is seeking an engineering consultant to study options for a Magnolia Bridge replacement — again.
The deteriorating bridge provides access to the south part of Magnolia, the Port of Seattle and businesses on West Marina Place.
The city selected a preferred replacement option for the 89-year-old structure in 2006, but lacked the funding to move forward. Cost estimates were between $230 million and $260 million for a new structure.
A $930 million transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in 2015 provides funding for further study, but not enough to build a replacement.
The new $335,000 consulting contract will develop up to three alternatives for another bridge. The alternatives may include options that were considered a decade ago.
Qualifications are due by 4 p.m. May 24 to the Seattle Department of Transportation. See the public notice in the April 20 DJC for more details.
