Oak View Group released new renderings on Monday for the $600 million renovation of Seattle's KeyArena.
The architect is Populous.
According to the Populous website, the design would make a stronger connection between the arena and the surrounding neighborhood through the heavy use of glass. The interior will be completely redesigned with new clubs and social spaces.
The historic roofline of the arena will remain.
Highlights of the renovation include a new glass atrium, a pedestrian plaza on the south side of the arena, and a new “premium” space called the Space Needle Club, which would have views of the event floor, the new atrium and the Space Needle.
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan signed an agreement with Oak View Group in December to renovate the arena. The developer will finance the project privately.
The arena is scheduled to reopen in 2020.
