Dr. Suzanne Lacasse will give a free lecture on “Reliability-Based Design for Robust Geotechnical Practice” at 5:30 p.m. April 12 in the UW Tower auditorium at 4333 Brooklyn Ave. N.E. in Seattle.
Shannon & Wilson and the University of Washington's department of civil and environmental engineering are presenting the 2018 Stanley D. Wilson Memorial lecture, which fosters thoughtful and practical engineering solutions. A reception will follow in Cafeteria South in UW Tower.
Lacasse will explore reliability-based design, managing risk and achieving robust geotechnical designs. Case studies will include dams, landslide runout and foundations for a historical ship museum.
Lacasse is technical director of the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute. She was educated in civil engineering at Ecole Polytechnique of Montreal and MIT, and is a member of the National Academies of Engineers in the U.S., Canada, Norway and France.
