SAMMAMISH — The Northeast Sammamish Water and Sewer District will demonstrate an early warning system for earthquakes.
The system, called Shake Alert, is designed to identify earthquakes within seconds after they start, and warn people and infrastructure that could be affected.
The demonstration is at 11 a.m. today at the Crest Reservoir treatment and booster pump facility at 3100 Sahalee Way N.E.
Northeast Sammamish Water and Sewer District is among the first utilities in the region to test and install the system as part of a U.S. Geological Survey pilot program.
