Design Perspectives: A Corner view on the waterfront plan so far

Flexible kiosks, super-sustainable bike path paving and new viewpoints at street extensions — these are just a few pieces of the evolving design for Seattle's waterfront shown last week by James Corner Field Operations.

The city wants a multi-modal Alaskan Way, with new connections to downtown Seattle. James Corner's team, which designed the popular High Line in New York, is living up to expectations. The schematic design should help support the current plan for funding, which includes private philanthropy and a local improvement district in downtown Seattle. That funding, which is subject to political pressures, is still coming together.
