Design Perspectives: Urban Visions' West Edge brings new apartments to downtown Seattle

What will a new generation of downtown Seattle apartments bring? West Edge at 1430 Second Ave. is a good place to start, if you can get a hard hat. The project nears completion this month, and move in begins in March.

The 39-story, mixed-use tower has 339 apartments. Ranging in size from 509 square feet for a one-bedroom to 2,703 square feet for the biggest penthouse, many are not large, and some of that goes to walk-in closets. But every square foot counts, with open plans and commanding views. One example of this achievement is a kitchen counter peninsula that extends to the window wall. In units like this, it's possible to chop vegetables in full view of the Pike Place Market sign, bay and mountains.
