California port delays cargo fees

LONG BEACH, CALIF. — A new fee that the Port of Long Beach was planning to charge shippers to fund transportaiton improvements in the harbor has been postponed.

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners voted this week to delay levying the $15-per-container “infrastructure cargo fee” for at least six months. The fee was supposed to go into effect on Jan. 1, 2009.
