Hiring freeze at Bremerton Shipyard

BREMERTON (AP) — The Puget Sound Naval Shipyard had planned to hire 560 workers this week, but the plans are on hold because of a Navy freeze on civilian jobs while Congress debates federal spending cuts.

The commanding officer, Capt. Steve Williamson, informed the shipyard's 11,000 civilian employees Wednesday about cost-cutting measures.
