OLYMPIA (AP) — Washington state lawmakers are facing a projected budget gap of more than $2 billion for the next two-year budget ending in mid-2017, in large part due to a new voter-approved initiative to shrink class sizes.
A four-year outlook released Wednesday by the Washington state Economic and Revenue Forecast Council showed that the projected shortfall for the following biennium ending in 2019 would be even larger, at $4.7 billion.
