PUYALLUP (AP) — Puyallup City Councilman John Hopkins had to pay $3,300 to the state Department of Labor and Industries for labor law violations. An audit found he used unreported and unlicensed workers at commercial properties he owns in the city.
Hopkins told The News Tribune he was punished for hiring workers who claimed to be self-employed contractors but didn't properly register with the state. He says complaints that led to the state investigation were politically motivated.
