Seattle Youth Traffic Court won the 2016 Spirit of Community Project Award by Seattle University's Center for Community Engagement. The program is a partnership of Seattle Municipal Court, Seattle University Law School, Garfield High School and Seattle Police Department that lets eligible teen drivers opt to have their case heard by a court of their peers. Youth participate as judges, jurors, defense attorneys and prosecutors in an actual courtroom. Teen drivers must help restore the harm their violation caused through community service, apology letters, research and participating in future Youth Traffic Court cases.
