On March 9 last year, a gas leak led to a catastrophic explosion near 8403 Greenwood Ave. N., destroying much of the block and heavily damaging dozens of nearby properties.
Amazingly, no one was killed or seriously hurt, but nine firefighters sustained minor injuries during the blast and subsequent blaze. Small businesses including Mr. Gyros, Neptune Coffee and the Quick Stop grocery were destroyed. Others had to vacate damaged buildings.
