Steam plant's last puff

  • The Shuffleton Steam Plant's smokestacks will come down tomorrow to make way for three office buildings.

    Nearly 200 apartment units are being built in Renton, adjacent to the Shuffleton Steam Plant. A hotel is planned along Lake Washington, where the site's temporary stormwater retention pond is located.

    After puffing away on the south Lake Washington shoreline for decades, the three stacks atop the Shuffleton Steam Plant will come down Saturday to make way for a trio of office towers.
