WASHINGTON -- The Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee yesterday voted to give $75 million next year to Sound Transit to build Central Link light rail.
The plan now goes to the full Appropriations Committee before heading to the Senate floor.
In July, the Federal Transit Administration announced that, following a 60-day congressional review, it will execute a multi-year full funding grant agreement of $500 million for Central Link. Sound Transit plans to break ground on the $2 billion, 14-mile line from downtown Seattle to Tukwila after the agreement is executed.
The fiscal year budget will determine how much of the grant Sound Transit receives in 2004. A House subcommittee has proposed $15 million for Central Link. A House-Senate committee is expected to determine the funding amount before the fiscal year begins Oct. 1.
