Winthrop footbridge more than a decade in the making

  • The project team had to overcome an expiring state grant, rising flood waters and the death of a contractor to finish the bridge.

    The cable-stayed bridge borrows its architecture from the late 19th century, with a span supported by a double warren truss and box columns made from diagonal lattice bars.
