Icicle Creek Center will start building Snowy Owl Theatre

Rendering by Studio Meng Strazzara [enlarge]

A ground-breaking ceremony is set for April 29 to start building the 240-seat Snowy Owl Theatre at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts in Leavenworth.

The theater was designed by Studio Meng Strazzara, and is expected to open early next year.

The project team is PCS Structural for structural engineering, Hargis Engineers for mechanical and electrical, Torrence Engineering for civil, BAi for acoustics and audio/visual, PLA Designs for theater and lighting, and Cornerstone General Contractors for construction.

The theater will be in a meadow on the center's campus near Canyon Wren Recital Hall, Meadow Amphitheatre and practice studios. The campus is used for educational and arts retreats, performances, special events, festivals and community gatherings.

The theater is designed to provide space for performing arts and education, as well as community events. It will have theater with a stage, wings, dressing room and backstage area. There will be a lobby, and seating on the main floor and a balcony.

A retractable seating system will allow for quick conversion to a flat floor for non-theater events.

The project is being funded through donations, the largest from arts advocate Harriet Bullitt, who opened the nearby Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort in 1996.

Icicle Creek has been using the Sleeping Lady Chapel Theatre for large performances.
