The Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibition opened in May at Seattle Center.
Built on the former Fun Forest site, the exhibition features art by Dale Chihuly, with a 12,208-square-foot pavilion with gallery spaces, a cafe, a 50-seat theater, lobby and bookstore. The new pavilion was created by remodeling a Fun Forest pavilion.
A 4,500-square-foot steel structure was built for the Glass House, with a suspended sculpture made of 2,000 pieces of red and yellow glass.
The garden covers 16,000 square feet, with another 4,500-square-foot plaza between the Glass House and the indoor pavilion.
The project is targeting LEED silver, with green roofs, green screen walls and natural ventilation. About 30,000 square feet of asphalt was removed and replaced with landscaping and art.
Funding was provided by Center Art, a entity made up of the Wright Family, the owners of the Space Needle and Dale Chihuly.
