Local construction employment hits three-year high as ‘fiscal cliff' looms

  • An AGC report says there are 72,700 people working in construction locally, the highest number since the summer of 2009.
  • Thanks to a surge in construction projects — many along Seattle's waterfront and in South Lake Union — construction employment in the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett area has hit a 3.5-year high.

    The Associated General Contractors of America released a report Wednesday that showed the Seattle metro area added 6,500 construction jobs over the 12 months ending in October, a 10 percent increase.
