U District block fills up with apartments, hotel

Site work for a hotel has started next to the 45th Street Plaza building in the U District. In a separate development on the block, AvalonBay’s 283-apartment project is coming out of the ground.

A long block touching busy Northeast 45th Street in the University District is in a major transformation, thanks to two projects that are displacing surface parking lots.
