Pike Place Market renovation phase three
Location: Seattle
General contractor: Turner Construction
Owner/developer: Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority
Primary designer: SRG Partnership
This renovation project is a multiyear infrastructure repair and upgrade program to preserve and improve the historic Pike Place Market.
Third-phase work impacted 91 commercial and 54 residential tenants, including several restaurants that stayed open during the renovation. The Turner team’s careful planning and coordination was a crucial part of maintaining positive relationships with tenants.
For example, the elevator installation in the Economy Market Building required extensive electrical rerouting, leading to two separate building-wide electrical shutdowns and three shifts of tradespeople working around the clock for two weeks. The Turner team also needed to be in the Pink Door restaurant for over a month for structural upgrades and building reroofing while the restaurant remained open.
By communicating and working closely with these tenants, the Turner team was able to schedule cut-overs to minimize impacts on daily and seasonal operations.
