FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — Permafrost will prevent the construction of a Fairbanks veterans cemetery at a site off Gold Mine Trail, but there are still plans to have the project out to bid this year, with construction starting as early as 2014.
Plans for a veterans cemetery have long been in the works in Fairbanks, a community with a large veteran population that is hundreds of miles from the nearest veterans cemeteries at Fort Richardson in Anchorage and at Sitka in the Southeast.
