Celestial art caps Fremont building

SEATTLE — Yesterday a crew from Ness Crane installed a 24-foot-diameter model of the planet Saturn onto the top of the five-story Saturn Building at 3417 Evanston Ave. N. in Fremont.

The building sits across the street from the Fremont rocket in a neighborhood that calls itself the “center of the universe.”

Saturn Building developer Brian Regan decided to run with the celestial theme, and commissioned the steel-and-fiberglass artwork for the 49,000-square-foot office and retail structure, which opened nearly a year ago.

The planet was fabricated at B&B Aircraft in Tacoma. It has solar panels and electrical equipment that were provided and installed by Artisan Electric of Vashon Island.

The panels are expected to provide 2,610 watts of energy, enough to light several of the building's office spaces.

The building was designed by Brian Regan along with Lance Mueller and Associates, and offers small office space for entrepreneurs and businesses.

HomeStreet Bank Commercial Real Estate provided a $12.9 million portfolio loan for the project.
