SEATTLE — Yesterday Seattle Tunnel Partners restarted Bertha, the machine digging the SR 99 tunnel in Seattle, and pushed her ahead 2 feet to complete one tunnel ring.
Workers are now testing systems and evaluating the machine to see what maintenance might be needed before they resume tunneling. Yesterday, they finished inspecting the excavation chamber and cutterhead in an operation that required two weeks of hyperbaric work.
