Umpqua Bank opens in South Lake Union

Umpqua Bank recently opened a 5,500-square-foot branch at 200 Westlake Ave. N. in Seattle.

The branch has an Internet cafe/community wall where customers can hang out with a cup of Umpqua coffee and surf the web. There are private conference rooms for the community and local businesses to use, a banking bar staffed by tellers, and open spaces for browsing, reading and recharging digital devices.

A wood-slat ceiling crosses the entrance area and eventually curves down a wall into blackened metal panels that run vertically up both sides of a magnetized strip of back-painted glass. The wall is set off by an LED back-lit “fireplace” that is the backdrop for a portable stage. A screen comes out of the ceiling for bank or community presentations.

General contractor Lease Crutcher Lewis used BIM to ensure the ceiling's 304 slats and 57 elements were aligned to within one-sixteenth of an inch.

“Using BIM for one-half a day cut field layout efforts by one and one-half days and also equated to labor savings, no RFIs and no rework,” said Dai Gorman, project manager at Lewis, in a release.

The wood-slat ceiling contains mechanical, electrical, low-voltage, security, sound and sprinkler systems.

In another part of the bank, a 4-by-4-foot display called the discovery wall uses a PQ Labs overlay frame to turn two LED monitors into interactive touch screens. Customers can find more information about bank products and services here.
